ADR Refresher Courses

Your ADR Certificate is valid for a period of five years and you can only renew it by attending an approved Refresher Course. Your new certificate will run from the expiry date of your original certificate for a further period of five years.

The rules regarding the renewal of Certificates are quite clear and can be summarised as follows;

• You must undertake a Refresher Training Course at some time within the final year of your current certificate, and pass the examinations relevant to the modules and classes of dangerous goods that you carry.
• You can only take a refresher course covering the modules and classes on your current certificate and should you fail any module or class, you will have to attend an Initial Training Course before you can resit the examinations that you failed.
• If you wish to add anything new to your certificate this can only be done by attending an Initial Training Course relating to the additional modules and classes required.
• You must undertake refresher training prior to the expiry date of your current certificate. If you do not you will have to complete an Initial Training Course (not a Refresher Course) before a new certificate can be issued. There is no leeway on this.
• You must have a minimum of 4 weeks remaining on your current certificate before you can start a refresher course. This is to allow for the course to be completed and certificates despatched to successful candidates before the expiry date.

Remember;

You are not allowed to drive a vehicle transporting dangerous goods without having a current certificate in your possession, even if you have completed the examinations and are awaiting delivery of your renewed certificate.

You are strongly recommended to renew your certificate well before the expiry date as failure in any of the examinations will extend the time period required to renew your certificate.

It is sensible to book your refresher course well in advance, we suggest, at least three months prior to the expiry date of your old licence.

Examinations:

Examinations on refresher courses follow the same format as on your Initial Training Course. You will have to pass exams for the modules and classes that you require. The examinations are multiple choice format and the passmark required is 70%.
